Introduction: The Zubaidah Tallab Foundation is a registered Canadian Charity under the Income Tax Act. It receives donations and issues tax receipts. Charity status for the foundation was granted by Revenue Canada in May 17, 2007. This was achieved in a record of 2 months.
The reasons for registration was “because it advances religion by establishing and supporting a house of worship with services conducted in accordance with the tenets and doctrines of the religion of Islam; Sunni branch as practiced by the Sahaba and Salaf Al-Salih”. It is designated as a Private Foundation.
Zubaidah Hashim Tallab was the late mother of Susan Ghazali, may Allah rest her soul. Dr. Susan Ghazali wanted to start a Muslim charity in her name (Sadaqa Garia) after she died in the Mayo Clinic in January 18th of 2006.
On February 18th of 2007, Dr. Hussain Guisti, his wife Dr. Susan Ghazali and Dr. Hisham Tassi, all residents of Thompson, formerd a new Corporation with the goal of acquiring charity status, called the Zubaidah Tallab Foundation. The goal of this new corporation was to build a masjid in Thompson.
There has been a strong Muslim presence in Thompson for over 40 years. However, there has never been a masjid. The Muslim community in Thompson, who are now represented by the Manitoba Islamic Association – Thompson Chapter (MIA-TC), had wanted to build a Mosque for decades, but the project fell through every time. For 40 years the Muslim community only prayed Juma’ and recently that was in a basement of an old church |
